My Story

Just Stitchin’ was established in 2002 by owner and designer Louise Humphris. Louise had been a dressmaker by trade for several years prior to this and her love of hand stitchery came after her fifth child, and the only girl, was born. Louise became best friends with her neighbour, Patricia Mallard, ‘Patty’ (as she is affectionately known), who taught her everything she knows about embroidery and hand quilting. Finally, Louise found her ‘niche’ and began designing cloth dolls, clothing with simple stitcheries, patchwork and applique for her daughter. Together Patty and Louise became business partners and sold their collection of dolls, bears, quilts and garments to boutique gift shops on the South Coast of NSW. Several years later, the business wound up as Louise relocated and started Just Stitchin’ with a strong focus on teaching kids.

Louise loves informal, country styles, turning simple stitchin’ into works of art without it being too complicated. Her range of easy to understand patterns follow a simple naive theme which offers the opportunity for those young and young at heart, beginner, to the advanced stitcher to learn traditional skills or enhance their skills. She loves to pass on her skills and knowledge to anybody that wants to give it a go.

Just Stitchin’ has a range of creative Kitz 4 Kidz ©. Each kit contains a pre-printed design on fabric, thread and needle as well as comprehensive instructions including diagrams.

Many children miss the opportunity today to learn these traditional skills as we live in a busy world. They will develop many skills in this area, as well as learning about colour and texture. The children finish their project with an abiding sense of satisfaction and self-worth. The designs provide the student and opportunity to learn to stitch and develop their fine motor skills and strengthen their hand/eye coordination.

So, what are you waiting for? Grab a pattern for yourself and a Kitz 4 Kids © for the child in your life and create an heirloom together.
